Katy O’Connor is an artist and animator living in Phoenix, Arizona.  She received her MFA in painting and drawing from the University of Texas in 1999 and her BFA in painting and drawing from U of A in 1995.  Her art has been exhibited at the Austin Museum of Fine Art, Arthouse, D Berman Gallery, Dallas Contemporary Art Center, as well as being published in the quarterly magazine, “New American Paintings.” 

From 1999 until 2012 she worked in collaboration with Bob Sabiston and the artists of Flat Black Films on commercial and artistic animation projects.  She was a lead animator for the feature films Waking Life (dir. Richard Linklater) and the Five Obstructions (dir. Lars von Trier),  As well as having worked on many high profile music videos, short movies and national (U.S.) ad campaigns. 

In 2010 her personal animated short, “I Love You,” played at the Zagreb Animafest Film Festival, the Holland International Film Festival, the Ottawa International Animation Festival, Animanima in Serbia, the Melbourne International Animation Film Festival and Vox Feminae Film Festival in Croatia.

In 2012 she moved back to Phoenix after 16 years in Austin and is currently teaching Drawing at Grand Canyon University, growing her portrait and illustration business, and getting back to work in her studio.
